Parks Reservations Picnic Shelters The City of Kettering Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department has several reservable picnic shelters within the following parks: Delco Park, Indian Riffle Park, Ernst Park and Irelan Park. Reservation rates can be found on our website. Non-reservable shelters (first-come, first-served basis) are located in: J. F. Kennedy Park, Oak Park, State Farm Park, Tait Park, Van Buren Park and Wenzler Park. Kettering residents may reserve the shelters beginning the first work day in Jan. Non-residents may reserve beginning the first work day in March. Shelters may be reserved between Apr. 1 and Oct. 31. Shelters are reserved in one time slot only—from dawn to dusk. Athletic Fields If you would like to reserve a sports field, please complete the Athletic Field Reservation form on our website. Parks Maintenance Center 937-296-2486 3170 Valleywood Drive, Kettering, OH 45429 Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. The splash pad is FREE and open seven days a week, from sunrise to sunset, of Memorial Day weekend through Sept. 30. It is located at 5073 Bigger Road, close enough to ride a bike or walk. Groups of 10 or more are limited to a 2-hour stay at the splash pad per visit, 10 a.m. – Noon or Noon – 2 p.m. The splash pad will not be available for groups of 10 or more between the hours of 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. There is no bus parking in the splash pad parking lots. Space is limited with many different activities in the park besides the splash pad. Athletic Field Closure Policy Decisions for field closures are made no earlier than 3 p.m. Monday through Friday by Parks staff. Please go to playkettering.org or download the FREE Play Kettering app to stay current on field closures. Fishing Ponds Free fishing ponds located in Delco, Indian Riffle, Lincoln and Pondview parks. No fishing license is required to fish in these ponds which are stocked with bluegill and bass. Fishing is permitted between dawn and dusk, seven days a week. We encourage catch and release. Environmental Sustainability Programs Citizen Tree Planting Program To maintain quality street trees in Kettering, a limited number of trees are available for purchase annually to Kettering residents. Living Tree Program The Living Tree Program is designed for persons or organizations desiring to commemorate a particular event by planting of a tree and a bronze plaque. Heritage Tree Program The Heritage Tree Program recognizes exceptional trees that enhance our community’s character and natural beauty, celebrating their environmental and aesthetic benefits. Kettering Pear Purge The Kettering Pear Purge is a citywide effort to remove invasive Callery pear trees from city property and replace them with native species, improving wildlife habitat, safety, and the long- term health of Kettering’s urban forest without reducing overall tree canopy. Yard Debris Drop-Off Program Residents can dispose of their yard debris (other than grass clippings) at the Yard Debris Drop-off site located at 1840 Woodman Center Dr. between Dorothy Lane and Woodman Dr. Open the first Monday in March through the first Saturday in December, Monday – Friday, 3 – 8 p.m., Saturday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Closed the remainder of the year, on holidays and during inclement weather. Tree and Brush Chipping Program The Kettering Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department’s chipping program is designed to provide the most extensive service possible. For the best results, download the chipping fact sheet from our website and call before you begin your trimming. Leaf Compost and Wood Mulch Program Free leaf compost and wood mulch are available to Kettering residents beginning in April while supplies last. Pick up at Indian Riffle Park, 2801 E. Stroop Road (behind Tannenberg Kennels) during daylight hours, seven days a week. Proof of residency is required. J. F.
