ARC Lifeguard Recertification Prerequisite: Participant must be currently certified as an American Red Cross Lifeguard. Valid certification must be presented to the Instructor on the first day of class. Participants must pass the Pre-Skills test on the first day of the course. This Lifeguard Recertification course is designed to update your skills while also extending your certification for another two years. The American Red Cross Lifeguard Blended Learning Certification Course trains candidates to act with speed and confidence in emergency situations both in and out of the water. Topics include; water rescue skills, surveillance and recognition, first aid, breathing and cardiac emergencies, CPR, AED, and more. Attendance at all scheduled sessions is required for successful completion of course requirements. A portion of the training will be done online through the American Red Cross learning center at home. A computer will be required for this completion. Successful completion of online coursework is required to be met by the end of the class. Successful completion of this course offers a two-year certification that includes Lifeguard, First Aid, CPR and AED. Course material requirements and additional class information will be provided following registration. This class does not qualify for 10% discount. Tread water for 2 minutes using only legs, with hands under armpits. Then swim 50 yards using the same approved strokes, demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing (goggles allowed). • Timed Event: Start in the water, swim 20 yards (no goggles), then surface dive 7–10 ft to retrieve a 10-lb object. Surface and swim 20 yards on your back holding the object with both hands, keeping your face at or near the surface to breathe. Do not swim underwater. Exit the water without a ladder. Must be completed in 1:40. After passing, you may register for the ARC Lifeguarding course at the KRC. No refunds for cancellations or unsuccessful attempts. Upon successful completion; you may register for the American Red Cross Lifeguarding course which is also offered at the Kettering Recreation Complex.
